we check the Wikipedia pages to see "this day in history" information for a given day. we feel it's almost like an oracle of sorts—we get a sense of whether the day's likely to be a good one or a bad one. we check 11 March and first thing we see is:
222 – Roman emperor Elagabalus is murdered alongside his [sic] mother, Julia Soaemias. He [sic] is replaced by his [sic] 14-year old cousin, Severus Alexander.[1]
guuuuuh. maybe I should just go back to sleep.
by the way, our chief source for Elagabalus is the Greek-Roman historian Dio Cassius, who had some job under the rulership of Alexander Severus—so it was in Dio's interest to play up Elagabalus as a villain of history in order to make Alexander Severus seem like a restoration of sound leadership. bias, bias everywhere!
