#edge

lol this fucking article links to a study listing ways that microsoft tries to give as much preferential treatment to edge as possible. absolute baby shit.

honestly the most insulting part is that if they didn’t do any of this annoying bullshit, more people would probably use edge. like it’s just chrome but a bit more microsoft-y and i’ve seen some people say that they like it for that exact reason. moreover it’s also just the default browser on windows and there’s enough old people who don’t understand computers who’ll never switch away from edge because it’s good enough to be the default.

thank goodness i’m on macos where id never have to worry about apple giving preferential treatment to safari. anyways i wonder what’s going on in apple news in the eu, i hope there’s no weird abuses of power that apple’s doing with safari

(This is Outlook but you see the trend, right?)

Having to switch to safari to install a PWA was already giving me the same "what's the point of a default if it's not respected" feeling as Microsoft's dark pattern hell - I do think Apple is doing a better job than most, and their defaults are better than Microsoft's, but I also just think all of big tech is going in this "no respect for the user's preferences + no ownership of tools" direction and that's the big problem which we have to fight by continuing to make our own stuff
