There's been several people in the news who I've seen pictures of who I think "wow they're nice looking" and then look down and see that they're like murderers or something. I'll see comments about how they're hideous and what's that thing on their face and you can tell how ugly and disgusting they are just by looking, and then I feel guilty because, uh, no, I couldn't? Am I broken for not having an ugly-is-evil-o-meter?
In reality I suspect that for a lot of people it's hard to reconcile moral repugnance with aesthetic attractiveness in the same person so they just say they see things that they don't. Morally reprehensible monsters are Actually Ugly If You Look Properly or Know The Truth, or wonderfully kind people's appearances are always Shining and Beautiful if you Know The Truth.
I feel like we should stop doing this beauty === morality thing.
(Note: I think there's a difference between ppl whose self presentation involves like, maga hats and shitty shirts and weird moustaches to flag a certain mentality (which they can help!) and like. their actual natural faces and bodies. which they can't affect or change (outside of surgery I guess...or makeup??).)
