Interesting night of FFXIV last night. One theme was “Hardcore Players on Parade” — I tanked Strayborough for three folks with fancy “Legend” titles or similar, and it was honestly a pretty bad experience because they were impatient and having a pull finish in 45s rather than a minute threw off all my cooldowns. Then I healed M1N and got seven comms for a solid but unremarkable performance, which I think probably came from a static warming up with one healer missing.
The highlight of the evening, though, was a run of the level 91 dungeon. It was a little sketchy, but generally fine until the final boss, when about halfway through the healer and one DPS died, leaving me (Warrior) with just a Black Mage for support in a fight that’s full of dodging. I kept that mage alive as long as I could with Nascent Flash and Shake It Off, until the poor schlub died of having same-brain with me on a spread marker, then I soloed the last 15-20% of the boss’ health. The party was pleased.
🥊 Sometimes running duty roulette means taking care of the tank who's not fully meshed with their current role yet (In this case, a DRK who was used to WAR durability) and the healer who was also struggling a bit with playing healer, and get them through the dungeon in as one piece as can be managed with a VPR.
It was fun! Especially the couple times we had to be the tank. That was fun.
