What happened to Day 22? I talked with a potential publisher for Forged in the Dungeon!

Today I finally decided on how factions will work which is a really big relief! There are a fair amount of subsystems and mechanics that revolve around factions and I can finally flesh them all out.

I went with Beam Sabers approach of Factions instead of Blades in the Dark due to gods, kingdoms, and powerful entities. In high fantasy games players interact with those fairly often. But they don't usually directly interact with them or have direct impact until later in the game. However, the players usually interact with groups that represent those entities often and eventually those interactions percolate up. I have a feeling I'll have to give some slightly different guidance compared to Beam Saber but overall it should work out.

i have finished migrating sparks, the indie trpg discord bot, to rust. if you are technically-minded, you can find her code here. if you are not: she should be less likely to crash than before but please let me know if she does!

for those of you who have not heard of sparks before: please meet my beautiful daughter. she can handle the following types of rolls:

  • Powered by the Apocalypse
  • Forged in the Dark
  • Sparked by Resistance
  • Wildsea/Wild Words
  • custom rolls (which is to say, any arbitrary number* of arbitrarily-sided dice)

you can find a link to invite her to your server on her itch page, or you can just click here!

if you are interested in contributing to sparks, you...can. i am still fairly new to this whole software thing so please let me know if there's anything special i need to do to her github page to enable this.

also: my thanks to @river-delta, whose typescript implementation of Wildsea/Wild Words support served as the basis for the rust port!

*by "number" i mean "64-bit integer." sparks does not know how to roll 2.5 dice. neither, unfortunately, do i.
