I am very happy with this quilt! It took exactly 9 months to complete, with a lot of life happening along the way.

Final size is 42"x30.5" after washing.

Stars are from 60 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars by Carol Doak, and the accompanying Facebook group.

Solids are Kona Cotton, batik is Anthology Lava Batiks in Moonstone. Red patterned fabric is from a pair of Victoria's Secret pajamas. Blue binding fabric is Keepsake Calico in Aqua Texture Linen-Look from Joann Fabric.

I embroidered Kaylee seeking a clear spot to jump up to on on of the color rays in her memory. That same star has a very visibly-mended ray as well after I had to repair a blown seam after washing-- I could have done an applique patch over it to make the mending less prominent, but that star already had a lot of repair-work done invisibly. I wanted to show the work that is still on-going from the time period I made that star.

Full details are at my PatternReview entry! See each of the stars up-close by using the lap quilt tag here in cohost. (I think I won this tag? Cool... But cooler still would have been more time for it to fill up.)

I'm so excited I got to share this quilt with you, cohost!

The top is pieced together, and now it's time to make the quilt sandwich (backing layer, batting, top layer), baste it together, sew the quilting on it, then measure & make binding, and sew the binding on.

I still haven't decided what I'll do for the quilting-- if I feel confident about my stitch-in-the-ditch skills I'll follow the seam lines through the stars and then do some echo lines around them. If I don't, I'll probably do an all-over cross-hatch design with some echoed lines for interest.

I'm glad I got to share most of this quilt with you, cohost! You will find the completed project (and progress photos) at my Mastodon or PatternReview (check the sidebar)-- eventually. There's still plenty of work to do!

I guess I'll never get to delete the typo tag for the book that I made when I first did these stars. I'll tag it here for infamy.

The Kansas Star Block is from 60 Fabulous Paper-Pieced Stars, by Carol Doak. This one is the 6" block size.

This is the last block for the lap quilt! I did not expect it to take this long, but life has its ways of making you slow down sometimes, whether you wanted to or not. Lots of life has certainly happened since I sewed the first block together. I'm glad I got share these with you, cohost. I don't know if I'll get the top pieced before we run out of cohost posting, but you can check out my Mastodon (or PatternReview, both in sidebar) to see it and the fully completed quilt.
