Talmyr was born at a psionic weapons testing facility in one of the asteroid belts. They were created for the "Phalanx" project, which was developing an infinitely reconfigurable, adaptable bioweapon to fight against the evil Cybers. Other bioweapons at this facility, such as the "Spearheads" and "Psi-Soldiers", are entirely programmable drones that are widely understood to not have a will of their own. Thus this nameless prototype was also assumed to be such an entity.

Unexplained anomalies repeatedly arose during the testing period, such as the prototype awakening within their stasis capsule at random unscheduled times, and scattered instances of them failing to execute a command as given.

Then one day, during a test of the prototype's ability to fly through space, the base lost contact with them, never to hear from them again.
