Introduction

In 2019, disaster struck for our neighbors and friends in Australia when the bushfire season occurred. Lots of videos and photos were shared on social media revealing the large scale damage and how it also affected Australian's wild life. Even as I recall it now, I recall a video of a koala who had been rescued and tearing up.

Although Covid-19 crept up in February and by March had taken over, I knew I wanted to do something for the wildlife affected. In April of that year, I ran a small campaign with the theme of Helping our Neighbors using the popular game Animal Crossing. We raised a small amount, which isn't so terrible for my first time doing it. All the profits were given to the WWF of Australia at the time to help animals.

Where We Are Now

Unemployment in 2021 meant that I had to step away from this project due to lack of funds. Despite that, one thing has remained true; even if I lacked the funds, I still wanted to help our Earth and her inhabitants. I mean, I draw cartoon animals: Of course these little subjects are dear to my heart.

The world still turned and things still happened while this was happening; you'll remember that in the wake of the world standing still that there was a new buzz that anyone could get into at the comfort of their home: NFTs.

We can debate the ethics of bitcoin and nfts until the cows come home. But for sake of brevity lets circle to the conclusion: the mining of bitcoin has impacted our Earth. And as an artist I want to find some small way to help combat this impact.

So I got to thinking: these folks wanted an unique monkey to call their own? To use as their icon online? That sounds exactly like adoptables: a kind of artwork sold by an artist that offers a character design that the is unique and by purchasing it, they are the sole owner of that character.

The Proposal

This year I want to sell original designs of animal characters that will be owned completely by the buyer. So here's my idea:

Each design will come with its own unique artwork including: a standee of the character made of wood. Each unique design will be bidded -- and then at the end of the bidding time, its yours. Here's what I'm looking to give you when you win:

  1. The Standee of your New Character
  2. A Certificate of Authenticity
  3. A Unique Print

There will be other things you can buy like I did in 2020: a unique print for this year, as well as stickers.

While this isn't close to what the final product would look like, the wood character standees may include a cute backdrop, your newly adopted character, and maybe something small like grass in the front. I hope to use a company that is eco-friendly.

The First Step

Does this sound like a good idea? Then I need your help! Even if you can not buy an adoptable character this year, that's okay. For now, I am looking for everyone to fill out a survey. I want to hear from you!

I'm looking for suggestions on themeing, organizations to donate to, and characters you'd like to see. I'm really leaning towards Amazon/South America but I'd like to hear your thoughts.

I'll be opening a survey through Google Docs. If you submit your email, I'll also add you to a Email List to keep you updated on this project.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me about it! I'd love to hear from you. :) Thanks again!
