I was very excited after the first season Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. Gays, evil corporations, great mobile suit designs, Shakespeare references. There was a lot going for it. The second season was a disappointment.
Spoilers below
Lackluster gay stuff. At least they went through with it, but they were separated the entire season and that sucked.
Girlboss saves the day. At the end of the day, all you need to fix the evil corporation is a CEO that cares!1!1 Disappointing message from Gundam, the people who in Iron Blooded Orphans armed union members! Who protested the government! Hell, Shaddiq had the right idea and Miorine put him in prison for it!
Education system as a tool for oppression. We see Asticassia as a place where the wealthy spacians can train their children, as well as a place where earthians can go to get an education. The earthians we see are orphans, are people without privelige trying to catch a break and survive. There’s a lot to work with here. But what options for change are we provided with? We get violent extremist terrorists who I would say have every right to do what they did, but the show does not portray them that way. We also get Miorine, who does the right thing and inherits the business from her father. Change can always come from the top girlqueen!
What the hell happened to the Shakespeare?!?! It was set up nice for season one. Eri-L, Prospera and their plot for revenge. They weren’t just names, they were provocative and called back amazingly to The Tempest (which I love for all it’s weirdness). It all just fizzled. It meant nothing by the end. Why start something you can’t follow through on?
Rant over.
Good mobile suits, amazing music, gay girlies, amazing animation.
Comfy Sulemio, from a while back
