#gi joe

Been trying to find an episode of something, with no luck. Had originally thought it was G.I. Joe, but it doesn't appear to be mentioned anywhere this doll can find, and can't even find it as an episode of some other cartoon. It involved a computerized space exploration vehicle that broke loose on Earth. Can't remember for sure what planet it was set to explore, but keep thinking maybe Venus? Either way, it was defeated with water, as that was the one contingency it wasn't designed for, since they were sure it wouldn't encounter that.

GI Joe is something that I absolutely cannot blame anybody who is even moderately left leaning for not liking. Even I'm not entirely sure why it speaks to me, especially since I don't really have any childhood attachment to the brand like I do with Transformers. It was really only in the mid-2010s when Hasbro started getting more aggressive about grafting it onto Transformers that I started taking any note of it.

But once I did, eventually one of the things that eventually got me was the whole convoluted Snake Eyes/Arashikage ninja clan interpersonal drama from the original Larry Hama Marvel/Devil's Due/IDW/Skybound comics continuity behemoth. Which surprised me, because I only got around to reading that stuff late last year and before that I always thought Snake Eyes was kind of lame. The problem is that a lot of Joe media outside of those comics thinks that the mere presence of ninja in an ostensible military themed setting is interesting enough, rather than the construction of an absurd, tangled web of soap opera relationships and histories among characters who are also soldiers and ninjas. It was during a discussion of said tangled web that a friend off handedly compared the group of characters associated with Snake Eyes to the Batfam that something really clicked into place for me.
