I read all of yu yu hakusho in like less than a week and my main take away is that yusuke would say the type of shit in those dracula flow videos completely unironically

am i too late to the "Actually Autistic" train? i thought about making a post... maybe i did during awareness month as a shitpost or somethin but hey
i'm autistic. i was diagnosed at age 7 and growing up with it has been both very interesting and incredibly stressful, who'da thought! still, i'd like in this post to recognise my privilege as someone who is cared for by their parents; i understand to some people, especially nonverbal folks, that those conditions may not be their lived experience, and that my position is as far as i know somewhat rare.
autism is a complex and (oftentimes for me) debilitating disorder, and i think more people should not only be aware of autism, but the struggles folks with autism go through as not only people, but a class of people - organisations like Autism Speaks tell parents that autism will destroy their lives and steal their children from their life dreams, and compares the disorder to chronic and fatal diseases like cancer and AIDS. legislators influenced by this sort of hateful advocacy continue to strangle legal protections for people with autism while cruel pseudoscientific "treatments" like electroshock therapy that traumatise children and adults for life continue to be performed. nonverbal people continue to be neglected and ignored because people don't know how to understand them, hate groups like AS telling them time and time again that they just can't be understood, that it's not worth the trouble.
but it is worth it, because these things have to end - which is why autistic self-advocacy, things like Actually Autistic and the neurodivergent movement as a whole, is so important to me!
i hope this brief lil post has been a little illuminating. i'd link a charity but i'm not aware of any as i don't generally get involved with activism - if you know one, feel free to link it in the comments! thank you very much for reading, and as a last note...
if people believe nonverbal folks don't have a voice, it's because they aren't listening
