i love screening movies for people in Bigscreen VR. (ever try Bigscreen? lil gif of it above. it's an awesome, free virtual movie theater that lets you stream from your PC! the streaming video quality is fantastic, and the VR embodiment is great for conversing.)

i want to explore holding more involved screenings with more people than just the one (lovely) long-distance friend i already do this with

i'm not sure of the best/most painless way to keep interested people informed of upcoming screening events. i would also need to send all confirmed attendees a room join code when the event's beginning.

if it was just a personal social circle i could go as primitive as group texts or something, but i want this to be open to other like-minded/interested people i don't yet know personally, too.

creating (yet another) Discord feels too involved for how simple this project would be? _{and also Discord sucks}

it's possible i'm overthinking but i'm wondering if there is a like, just a simple, low-friction tool that is designed to let people sign up to receive occasional alerts about an event. like an RSS feed but something random everyday people would use, lmao.

thought i'd see if anyone has any suggestions.

besides the lack of a general-purpose site / app / software to keep disparate people appraised of a scheduled event (see prior post's comments) it's just really hard for me to plan a screening more than 48h ahead of time. it's much easier to be spur of the moment, DM my one Bigscreen VR friend on the opposite coast and be like, "movie tomorrow?" "Yeah, sounds great!"

but i'm still wanting to do expand these to more movie lovers somehow. pondering.
(maybe i could just post here like people do when they're gonna go live on Twitch. or maybe... a dedicated cohost acct for a VR movie crew... hmm. would you be interested?)

at the very least will for sure be hosting some more mainstream movie showings and inviting my local retro nerd discord. a few less esoteric films i want to get around to with them:
