Ape get Out. That alone is the premise of the game, you are an Ape, and you must get Out. While on paper that sounds extremely simple, its execution and presentation is so exceedingly high to the point of absolute perfection. There’s such a level of polish and detail to every single aspect of the game, which I completely adore. While it was not a long game, I beat it under 2 hours as a matter of fact, it was just such a spectacular experience.

I can’t get over just how detailed the gameplay actually is. It starts out simple, but the more you play, the more you realize just how intricate it actually is. Enemies behave differently, and will try to attack you differently. Of course some have different weapons, but some will run away from you while others don’t. But one of the big sort of intricacies with Ape Out is when grabbing enemies. When you grab an enemy, they shoot once, which can be used to attack other enemies. You can then either use the enemy as a meat shield, or throw the enemy as a projectile. It creates such a really engaging balance that you can play around with for each level. That’s on top of each level just being designed in really interesting ways, the whole second disc has you going down a 30-floor building which I really adore.

But what pushes Ape Out to being such a perfect game is the overall presentation. The color palettes for each level are striking, which is especially true for the times they change mid-level. In one level you turn the lights off and it goes from the orange and purple that you once knew to a stark black and white. Going even further, the highlight of the entire game is absolutely the music. It’s super dynamic, changing as you play throughout the game, growing louder and more extreme as the level continues. Even aside from just how dynamic it is, the music is just amazing. The presentation though is absolutely perfect. By the time you finish Disc One, you’ll understand completely how perfect the presentation is in Ape Out.

I wish I had more I could say about Ape Out. This was such an amazing game to play through, and I’d gladly do it all over again. So not having as many words I have for this game feels wrong of me. It just has so much fine detail in how you play the game, and the presentation is one of the best I’ve seen in any game I’ve ever played. Please play Ape Out, it’s genuinely such an amazing game.
