My vampire Samir often spends the early morning hours with Mbali, one of our games NPCs. From three in the morning until the sun starts to become visible they catch up, talk about whatever they want, make plans and so on. She’s the only other person who doesn’t keep the typical sleep schedule and is more at ease in the dark. Being nocturnal can be lonely, Samir is grateful for her company.
I wanted to give this the feeling of that early morning light, when the sun hasn’t made it over the horizon just yet, but it’s on its way. When you can still see the last, brightest stars in the sky.
I'm really struggling to articulate exactly what I'm looking for? I don't use streaming services (which would feed me things I don't know?) and I would like to drill further into a niche I don't have a name for.
I have two very specific rules so far:
- I need to be able to easily buy it as an album (preferably digitally, but I do love me a CD)
- I need to be able to listen to the album first but not via a streaming service
a half rule is "no lyrics"; this can easily be broken but I'm also not at all able to articulate what's allowed to break it
genre-wise I don't really know what to call it, lo-fi? mmaybe chiptune? synthy I guess but only sometimes? Albums I have that have similar vibes to what I want more of:
- Zelda & Chill
- Fastfall (the Dustforce OST)
- Beneath a Frozen Cloud (Ever Towards a Better Yesterday)
- A Day Without Rain (Enya)
- bill wurtz's jazz
I don't think it's available anywhere not streaming, but OlliOlli World's sound track would also fit this list if I could own it.
Some of this is video game, but specifically games I'm attached to. I would feel the need to play the game if it's a game I have not done so that may or may not be a good rec 🤷
