I decided to start using Opus instead of OGG/Vorbis for music on my phone and wow the space savings are impressive. My FLAC library weighs in at about 380 GB, and when transcoded to OGG at 256 kbit, that comes down to about 110 GB. OGG 256 still sounds quite good, and while I'm out and about in the world and not using my better headphones I can rarely tell the difference at all.
Opus, though, is something else. People say that it's practically transparent at 128 kbit, and they're right. Even when I'm listening as closely as I can, I can at best barely tell the difference. And it accomplishes this feat while being way lighter than Vorbis. My entire library squashes down from 380 GB to 63 GB. 63! That's less than most modern games!
Amazing stuff. If your audio player of choice supports Opus, I suggest you get on that shit right now.
