Heretic II oh my great white whale. Anyhow I have managed to get it working... so far... I am hoping to eventually do a play through and upload it to my channel. I got it working because I got a proper US based CD and am only using the Official 1.06 patch and not the community 1.07 patch. This seems to work better for me. I also got music and EAX audio working. Now to just do a dry run to make sure it holds together. I have a pretty good idea why Quake II based games just piss the bed on modern systems, but I will g into that on a later day.
here's a short test run of me checking to make sure I can record this alright. It's one short level here so you can see the gameplay. Apologize for how dark it is that's just how the level is designed lol
One thing absolutely wild about Heretic II is how reactive Corvus is to the environment. This is 1998 on the Quake II engine and like the model knows how steps work. You don't even see this in newer games half the time. So Quake II models did not have a skeleton, in fact Quake III didn't implement one either. But Corvus has one because Raven added it. In the 3rd person view they wanted his head to turn whenever he looks around for immersion. Now I don't know how many points of articulation he has but it's rather impressive as you can see here with the way he is standing on the steps inn a way that's mostly natural.
the last of us show seems alright so far
that first episode was an enjoyable watch
