got hipped to this one by a doctoral essay by guitarist Tim Jago, titled: "THE ROLE OF THE JAZZ GUITARIST IN ADAPTING TO THE JAZZ TRIO, THE JAZZ QUARTET, AND THE JAZZ QUINTET". it's a great essay for jazz guitarists thinking about their role in combos, but anyways

this is a great tune! driving piano rhythm showing off the percussive qualities of that instrument, while moreno's guitar is flowing and lyrical. that initial melody is almost folkish in a beautiful way. it's a nice role reversal from what you typically hear in jazz combos, where the piano gets to play all those beautiful flowing lines and dense harmonies while the guitarist is going staccato thunk-thunk or ba-da-ba-da with the pick against heavy strings.

this is why i'm always saying more people should play with some gain and singing sustain. let the guitarist have fun for a change!
