Last year was a banner year for Image comics and Spawn as it marked the 30th Anniversary for both the publisher and comic. Spawn has always had great cover art and last year was no different. I picked four as that is the Cohost limit here lol. One thing that fascinates me is how in 30 years Spawn has kept the exact same logo. It changes colors from issue to issue but the logo itself has remained the same. Last year also marked the full roll out of the complete Spawn Universe. There have always been the occasional spinoff book, but now there are 4 Spawn books running simultaneously in the same timeline that tie together. We are going to cover some of my favorite covers from them shortly.
King Spawn kicked off the wider Spawn universe in the fall of 2021. It’s the first in three Spawn tie in books that expands the current storyline. So not ask me how because like all things modern Spawn it’s a bit confusing how it all ties together lol.
Gunslinger also released late 2021 and is probably the best of the 3 side books. This one is also surprisingly written by Todd McFarlane and is the first monthly he has written in a long while. Gunslinger gets stuck in our current timeline thanks to some timey whimey stuff. Anyhow this books is fun and keeps thing pretty fast paced. These are two great vcovers too with issue 12 here looking like it was inspired by some Hellsing art.
