my notifications broke again

heck what did i miss i had a THING i was PAYING ATTENTION TO

for anyone also getting this problem: it seems like toggling the "show notification count" setting fixes it. just to make sure i've been turning it off, saving settings, and then back on (or vice versa) but i'm not sure if that actually changes anything vs just on-and-off and then save.
