It's Christmas 1999 all I wanted was a Dreamcast and Sonic Adventures. I begged and pleaded. I made up things to do to curry favor. When I opened my gifts I got the most disappointing video games to one of the years most disappointing movies.

I am not likely to win friends with this one. I know that liking or hating the prequels is very generational. For the record I appreciate what George Lucas set out to do and I do think the meta narrative of the prequels is fascinating. The finished product on the other hand is carrying degrees of questionable.

I saw The Phantom Menace in a packed theater. I do not hate The Phantom Menace, honestly the only prequel movie I legit hate is Attack of the Clones, but it wasn't what I was expecting. We were hyped for like 3 full years leading up to the release. I even was a Star Wars Insider subscriber.

Oh right I am supposed to be talking about the game. Fucking Gungans, Fuck the Gungans and the Sand People, and the Jawas and the entire fight with Darth Maul and laser force field puzzle nonsense. Part of this is my fault I played the game with a flight stick, but look it's even shown in the games manual to play with one!!!!! it was the 90's we where weird with PC controls. If you can't tell there is a lot about this game that frustrates me. It is shockingly hard.

Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace is just a really odd game that mixes in some real light RPG into what is rather stale game mechanics. it has decent voice acting the graphics are okay, but clearly held back by needing it to be on the PlayStation as well. The Music is just John Williams score for the movie, but it is used really well and of course it uses iMUSE.

Overall this feels like a turning point for LucasArts. They went from great internal devs making unique games to licensing out bad Star Wars games almost exclusively.

I guess this might just be the programmer in me, but I'd love the ability to click on the top of a post and have it fold up or minimize. I love both posting and reading people's long posts, but sometimes when I'm going through my feed, I come across a long post(s) I've already read and then I have to scroll alllllllll the way past it. Just something I think could make browsing a little bit faster :D
