Made some more progress, decided to use the UFQFPN-28 package, which is the same I used for the original sprocket. It is so much smaller than the LQFP parts, and honestly made routing all the digital stuff super easy.

I'll probably order these tomorrow, once I get the bill of materials done and have a look with fresh eyes.
