it is often the case that two completely different fields of academia will rediscover the same piece of knowledge. for example, there was the time a person in medical research rediscovered the trapezoidal rule for estimating integrals. how many times do you think someone has independently rediscovered this concept themselves? as another point of comparison, we know that the Pythagorean Theorem was probably independently proven by a bunch of people living in different parts of the world (and it is likely that Pythagoras was not the first, or even second person to have discovered it).
