it's been a nice weekend but so incredibly glad to end it off with this film. got to see it in-person for the canadian premiere, got to meet the filmmaker karen cho (and get this card signed), got to have dinner with them and a bunch of people i care about and meet a bunch more other new people.
if you're at all interested in chinatowns across north america, but in particular those in new york (manhattan), montreal, and vancouver, i would really recommend watching it. it hits so many notes: gentrification, fighting development, COVID-19, anti-Asian hate, history, loss, but also community and caring for each other.
it's available for digital screening (CAD$15) starting tomorrow until next sunday as part of the toronto reel asian film festival. it will also be screening in montreal as part of RIDM on november 24 and 26 (with english and french subtitles, respectively).
spoilers under the cut.
