I've been working on character creation in The Last Days of Friendship Valley today, and I'm excited to report that it's looking extremely good!!!

This game's gone through a ton of different stages of development, and it's almost impossible to believe that these two screenshots are of fundamentally the same game. It's grown a lot over the past two years!! Lots of iterations of the same base design, getting closer and closer to something truly compelling.
The underlying mechanics are almost identical between these two screenshots; the only difference is years of time polishing the look and feel of everything, figuring out new angles, simplifying some mechanics so they're actually comprehensible, etc etc etc. I'm really happy with how well the base concept has held up, tbh!

another day of working on The Last Days of Friendship Valley, another day of constantly saying sentences like "i need to make it so that poking fun at someone won't cheer them up if they're too angry" and "should doing your roommate's dishes count as a stress action or a discomfort action"
The Last Days of Friendship Valley is hitting a bizarre level of design literalism i've never worked with before. Currently working with mechanical moments like "I need to eat the most comforting thing at the diner right before bed so I have the emotional strength to let go of the person I used to be, or else I'll wake up crying again and it's starting to mess with my job performance" and i think i might have accidentally invented the world's first feelings-based immersive sim
Disco Elysium confirmed easier than The Last Days of Friendship Valley in that all you need to be a better cop is meth. Finding the right dinner for Harry du Bois sounds hellish by comparison; gimme the good stuff. Feeding goats is going to utterly consume me - pun not intended.
