Spent the entire day yesterday at a major university exploring its many libraries. I am an old and withering millennial sourpuss, do you think the students grasp the astounding wealth of 10,000 years they have unparalleled access to?
As a mere local, I am allowed to apply for a courtesy card with some basic access to it all. Fantastic!
I wonder how many people hundreds or thousands of years ago were amazed/distraught that they could never hope to learn even a large fraction of the sum of human knowledge.
Could they imagine how tremendously smaller that fraction would become in the future?
Could they imagine a man in 2023 AD who had these thoughts, but about all the VTuber clips he'd never get around to watching, or all the interactive fiction he'd never play?
