Well, it's that time again, today's post is about the people of the Milky Way. Each species talked about in this post will be playable in game too!

This post is going to provide a simple overview of the species, the in-depth explainations would require a post each (I may do that sometime, who knows).

This is going to be a long one so sit tight.

Humans

We all know what a human is. Adaptable, tenacious to a fault, brave and (at least from the point of view of other species) amazingly stupid and smart at the same time.

Unlike most sci-fi settings, Humans are not the most common species in the galaxy. In fact, there is no one most common species.

Humans in Starfall tend to follow one of two archetypes, those who want to explore the galaxy and follow their own path, and those who want to be a part of something bigger.

Also, humanity set up both the least successful empire and most successful democracy in the galaxy within 200 years of each other.

Constucts

Some may call them AI, others call them robots. The reality however, is something far more complex. Constructs are alive, they are sentient, they are just made of metal and think in code. Some classify them as "Artificial Lifeforms" or "Synthetic Lifeforms" but the Constructs doe not like either of these terms as they see it as being classed as something less than alive.

Their culture is focused on unity and the will of the many. They are a post-scarcity society and there is no parliament or elected government. Instead, as every construct can communicate over vast distances, they all have converstations about changes to their society.

They have a central computer called Genesis which contains the knowledge to create new Constructs and can make them in different forms depending on the needs of their culture.

Vodaseans

Vodasean society is a meritocracy. Your intellignece and ambition for achievement directly link to your status in life. The planet Vodasea itself is a marvel to behold; streets paved in marble and gold, skyscrapers that reach to thhe edge of space, a mastery of science. It all appears wonderful.

make no mistake, the Vodasean Meritocracy is a failed state.

The leaders of the meritocracy stop at nothing to remain ahead of those below them, lest they lose power and the further down the ladder of personal achievement you go, the less rights Vodasean citizens have. The vast majority of Vodaseans are little more than serfs and slaves to the higher 10% of society.

Riots and rebellions occur almost daily and the Meritocracy is in a state of almost constant war.

The Vodasean people are physically weaker than most other races, having thinner, less muscular frames. This is on account of their planet's lower gravity, roughly 2/3 Earth gravity. Vodaseans are latently telepathic, able to communicate with anyone of their own species so long as they are within 100ft of each other. Not to mention, Vodaseans have the highest percentage of beings with a connection to the Aura in the entire galaxy, roughly 1 in every 2.5 people is born with some form of connection.

Vodaseans are extremely intelligent and very charismatic, naturally due to their want to constantly improve. Vodaseans have a reputation for being very brazen and hot headed when talking to other species, often believing themselves to be superior to others. This is merely a stereotype however, as most Vodaseans are kind and agreeable people. It is from the top 10% of their society that this stereotype arises.

Rygellans (or Triskin)

Perhaps the most diverse species in the galaxy, the Rygellans are natives of the Rygell cluster, a series of star systems at the very edge of the galaxy.

Rygellans are hard to categorise as their species has a completely different structure of biological sex than most species. Rygellan biology is baffling, while there are traits that every Rygellan shares - such as patches of bonelike, brown scales on their skin, two antenae and eyes that have no irises and large, vibrantly coloured pupils - there is much more that they do not share. Using terms like "gender" and "sex" are not really ideal when dealing with Rygellans as they miss the sheer complexity of biology that is displayed throughout their species.

Rygellans use the term Tris to categorise the many variations of their species' biology. There are three Tris that are more common than the others, Granthis Tris (pronouns: Gra/Gran/Grans), Atrus Tris (pronouns: Atra/Atran/Atrans) and Nest Tris (pronouns: Nes/Nesa/Nesans). These three are wildly different biologically and while I could give a detailed explaination, this is already a super long segement.

It is also important to note that Rygellans call their species Triskin and use their own unique dialect of Galactic Common. They do not mind being called Rygellans and even used that name to sign up to the United Interstellar Commonwealth.

Kleptasii

The jovial aquatic species friends of the Milky Way. The Kleptasii are the youngest race in the galaxy, their species only really developed sentience 2000 years ago. They were elevated to a space faring society by the Vodaseans who also quickly made the Kleptasii Commune into a puppet state.

Kleptasii are categorised by their blue skin, webbed hands and feet, gills and their two large tails. These tails often end in hooks or spikes made of a hard bonelike structure and it is believed that the Kleptasii used to use these to hunt.

They also have natural camoflague which allows them to shift the colour of their skin to match their surroundings. This makes them great spies and assassins. Naturally, this is the job they are most often given by the Vodaseans, as such, most other species dont trust them much.

Despite this mistrust, Kleptasii are very welcoming and its said they they have some of the best hospitality in the galaxy.

Due to their elevation to a space faring society by the Vodaseans, the Kleptasii haven't really had much time to develp their own culture, but they have a strong sense of community and comradeship, leading them to organise their society into what can most appropriately be described as a commune.

More than two thirds of Kleptasii are female and their society is extremely matriarchal. The reasoning for this is largely unkown but it is said to likely have something to do with the secretive Kleptasii religion.

Kellar

Deeply religious and fiercly indepentant, the Kellar are a nomadic people. Their homeworld is unkown, as is their reasoning for abandoning it. These days, the Kellar are split into groups known as Kliks. These can be small gatherings of less than 10 Kellar or large groups of as many as 1 million Kellar. Each Klik has different traditions and beliefs, but each Klik follows the same Kellar religion, though, often with differing interpretations.

Each Klik has a leader who acts as the religious leader for the entire Klik, guiding them through the void of space. The Kellar religion is deeply complex and involves the ritual hunting of other species.

The Kellar are extremely tall, with the average height being 12ft. They are reptillian and have 4 arms. They also have large wings that enable flight. They have often been compared to Dragons by humans, though Kellar cannot breathe fire.

The Kellar treat almost every other species as prey, not caring for lives beyond that of their kin. some even treat other Kliks as prey. Regardles of how they see you, if a Kellar Klik targets you for the hunt, you better start running.

That's not all!

There are many other species in the galaxy. I just dont have the space to talk about most of them here. Below is a bullet pointed list of some of the more exotic species that I didn't get to talk about.

  • Selenir: Giant sentient insects who run a capitalist society.
  • Aspects: Beings made entirely of Omega. They can float through walls and mess up technology.
  • Tectonicaii: Sentient rocks that see with echolocation.
  • Sayonach: Clouds of moss creatures that take the forms of people. They are a hive mind species.
  • Damhir: A species of mole-like people who have light sensitivity and are expert engineers.
  • Solarians: They live inside Stars, are made of plasma and molten metal and they hate all life.
  • Ulathon: Kind of like centaurs and they can shape shift.
  • Shie'Ri: Hyper religious, avians who somehow still operate a fuedal system in the 25th century.

I hope you all enjoyed this post, even if it is a little long. Next time, I hope to talk more about character creation in Starfall and how I hope it can lead to unique and interesting characters.
