Due to technical issues, I watched the beginning of the movie in silence with subs. Some things came to my attention:
The photography and colouring is really good. So good you don't think much about certain things, such as the fact it's a military movie.
At the end of the day, this isn't a war movie. War implies it's inevitable. War is where good, honourable people are forced to commit atrocities in the name of something they cannot control. That isn't the case here. Those planes may be cool and slick and technological marvels but they were made for one thing only: killing. Not defending, not keeping peace.
So, given we're seeing a movie about how those machines are increasingly good at their jobs, let's justify the murder then. Let's make the enemy a real horrible threat but also below us, weak and their people in need of saving.
Let's sell the idea that going into the military is a good, stable, cool career choice. The sunsets are amazing, the troops are fun. Hey, it plays danger zone all the fucking time.
I can't rate this movie because any rating I give it will be dishonest in some way. It's not a bad movie. It's great at what it was meant to be. The issue is that I detest the thing it is great at being.
