Had some thoughts about trying to organize a pop-up arcade at a DIY space and trying to think through obvious needs/problems. Would love any input, guidance, or general advice from anyone who's done this kind of thing at unconventional spots (ex house basement). Obvious stuff I've thought through very loosely are:
- hardware, having enough rigs to at least have one setup of each game. m+kb or gamepads for each? m+kb is probably more typical for an indiecade. This will probably be the most difficult since I don't really have a local dev scene to borrow hardware from but people might be willing to contribute.
- furniture (tables, chairs, lighting; probably need relative to the amount of playable setups)
- electric situation (surge protectors, extension chords). most spots probably have some of these bc of music equipment but also most heads probably aren't replacing their surge protectors at the appropriate intervals.
- what games to have. would obviously be preferred to have local games but this is being organized to maybe kickstart a local scene. also wondering if like-genres fit or if having a spread makes more sense. coming from love music where generally booking similar bands reigns.
- how to get heads there. hard to do without a local scene!! chicken or the egg type shit.
