When I first heard about Lemuria (thanks to Golden Sun: The Lost Age) I thought the name sounded so cool. I assumed it was related somehow to e.g. the French mer meaning sea, appropriate for a sunken continent.

Actually it turns out to be more related for the Latin for ghosts or spirits. Because it's lemur-ia. Lemur land. After the animal.
