Pixel Art 08/05/23 Eevee Redux

Eevee! Again.
Happier with this one than my last Eevee. To be fair, I think there were two or three weeks where I didn't really have the wherewithal to do art and I got a bit rusty and impatient during that time, I still like that one though. Probably going to try drawing Umbreon next.

Edit: Thought the eyes I drew were a bit creepy and there was a weird flap of fur that somehow turned up in the original and I just assumed that I probably had the right idea and just wasn't seeing it right. I've applied some fixes and I like it better now.
Thoughts I had while working:

  • Starting a bigger project, I wanna draw all the eeveelutions. I think we'll start from Eevee as a natural starting point and then go from what I think will be the easiest to hardest to make:
  1. Eevee (Might be hard to fit them into such a small area.)
  2. Umbreon (Pretty sleek design, unless I'm underestimating the complexity of their rings. I have an Umbreon oc. Very crude drawing of him I made when I was feeling down that I use for my banner here and on tumblr of him asking if you're feeling alright <3. Bad art on the skills side, but there's something there that I really like about it, can't quite elocute why. Idk his name, Darky or Shade or something else a dark animal might be affectionately named.)
  3. Glaceon (I've got a plushie of them! Also Leafeon and Sylveon, but they have some rough parts that aren't as nice to cuddle and kinda bother me to sleep with. The foam in all of them is kinda too hard for my taste, but I still like them. They all got moldy one time and it took some effort figuring out how to clean them.)
  4. Espeon (omg, I don't have anything to say about Espeon, but they're really cool too!)
  5. Sylveon (Ribbon feelers might be a challenge, but they can be drawn pretty freeform, I think, so shouldn't be too different from the less frilly one's I'll have gotten to before.)
  6. Flareon (That dog has a puffy tail!)
  7. Jolteon (Lots of spikes, maybe won't be that bad.)
  8. Leafeon (Small and jagged leaves are gonna be difficult to get right, I think. Hopefully I've learned from getting the tufts of hair on Espurr.)
  9. Vaporeon (Fish tail, spine ridges, collar and head fins make this an intimidating design for me. Also, I'm gonna have to figure out how to add a bit more shine to this one, cuz of the lack of fur.)

  • Actually, the real intimidating part of the eeveelutions for me is mostly the base body which is mostly the same across the family, so maybe I'll get real good at drawing that by the time I'm done. Goodness I hope.

  • I wanna get Eevee done before I have to go back to work on Monday. I'd really like to get faster at this. Mostly a patience and focus game and I don't seem to have that much of that at the moment, so we'll see.

  • I'm sure I could progress faster if I more closely followed some tutorials, but I just can't. idk, I don't like being told what to do in such a confident way and they're mostly drawing human and human-like faces and I'm realizing that's a big anxiety trigger for me sometimes.

  • Ok, before I stress myself out too much, let's draw the body. I've found a cute pose for Eevee that I want to try and get something like.

  • the water in my bottle smells like onions. wth happened?

  • Things actually feel a lot more manageable when you just draw a nice-looking shape. Like, even if Eevee's head isn't a circle, I can mold that into the right shape.

  • Didn't write my other thoughts, too focused. Have made quite a bit of progress, having trouble with the legs as I expected. I made the back legs too close together, causing a weird look, but it does give me confidence that I'll be able to pull off the pose.

  • butt too round omg people are gonna think im a different kind of artist. am I an artist? not professionally, but I suppose so.

  • problem has been rectified.

  • I think I'm a little too close to my reference picture. It's probably fine for now, I just want to eventually get to a place where I can imagine unique poses and find a way to get there myself.

  • Sometimes cohost will have this weird bug when I have this page open too long where it'll go white and I'll have to reset the page and I'm not writing down those notes I lost, but Eevee's done and I'm pretty happy with it. I know; I should just write it in a notepad and then paste it here. I'll never learn, lol. I guess I got what I needed in the moment out of the notes, it's just nice for me to have a fossil record of some day-to-day thoughts.
