Okay, I was thinking very much about how the nmu’s clothes work and how they make those clothes.

Image 1: The nmu have many styles of clothes, some of which are just rectangles of fabric with no sewing involved. When sewing is involved the clothes are usually constructed in a way similar to this. The ‘dress’ design here is one of the most simple and versatile sewing patterns. More complicated variations can have sleeves or more fabric flaps. The waist loop can either be sewn in, or it can be more like a belt and can be removed.

Image 2: For simple clothes they can dress themselves. Though more complex clothes usually require assistance to get dressed.

There is an opening in the collar to let them put their head through. The collar can then be secured with a tie, pin, or snap, or it could be left open. In modern times the collar might alternatively be made of elastic fabric.

Image 3: Although the nmu prefer their trucks for most tasks, they do have some ability to grab things with their hands. Sewing can be done with the hands or the trucks and involves passing the needle between two grabbing tools. The most basic version of the hand sewing tool looks like wooden tongs. In modern times it is more like needle nose pliers with a spring in them. They also have a large grip, which can come is a variety of shapes and sizes depending on if it was mean for trunk use or hand use.

Other notes:

  • Clothing styles are mostly non-gendered.
  • I don’t know about the dexterity of trunks but I’m assuming the nmu can’t use buttons unless they’re comically oversized.
