(this smells very very good)
got my first-ever EverDrive, micro sd all sorted, now just waiting on an s-video cable that's held up by a UK shipping strike of some nature (a good reason for a delay, if there's ever been one).
that's a JP21-wired RGB cable in the box but unfortunately this 1996 console's RGB mod is busted on anything but a powered upscan converter, just total blackness. i'm told it's an easy electronics fix but what i really need out of N64 for my setup now is YPbPr, and in lieu of fixing the mod and adding the complication of an RGB -> YPbPr adapter i'm just stepping down to s-video.
will be the first time i'll ever have used s-video (aka Y/C, Luma/Chroma), i went from composite to RGB back in the day. but i've started to get tired of RGB's unrealistically perfect picture, especially on overly accurate displays (broadcast monitors) and on consoles whose identities were deeply shaped by lower-quality signals (NES and esp. Mega Drive). as such i'm also looking forward to MikeS finishing development of his Y/C cores + hardware for MiSTer.
edit: oh, composite cable was underneath the system. i'll start with that. :) N64 is go!
