Kin sat in his workshop. In truth, it was little more than the corner of Lady Tazra's cave that happened to hold repair tools, but the dragon posted him there often, and he was quite good at his tasks. It was at least as much his as anything in his Lady's lair, and that was satisfactory.
Heavy footfalls and the sound of a scaly tail dragging along the stone floor caught Kin's attention; he turned to see the red dragoness herself striding towards him. Lady Tazra sported a new scar along her foreleg, but her gait showed no signs of it, even as she slowed and crouched. From her large jaws tumbled a quartet of skulls: two human, one elven, and one... likely vulpine. All four of them cracked through, with the individual pieces kept among themselves only by the dragon's skilled tongue. As he looked over them, he grew aware that Tazra's golden eyes were focused on him; startling back, he straightened his posture and yipped out a quick, "y-yes, ma'am?"
Confident in her kobold's attention, Tazra stood back up to her full height, but stepped back to save him having to crane his head back quite so far. "Copper for these four- no, silver for the fox, copper for the other three. Fate dealt him to an unfortunate player, but he sang well in his final minutes." After Kin repeated her instructions, she nodded, and continued, "additionally, your denmate Serta fell defending me. She will aid me once more, and then I will present her to you: you will give her gold, as is tradition, and no less than she deserves."
"Silver for the fox, copper for the others, gold for Serta. It will be done, ma'am." Kin chanced his eyes moving from the dragon back to the skulls, already trying to piece them together in his mind; to his luck, she did not rebuke him, instead merely turning and walking away to lead somewhere else in her lair. The thuds and scrapes of her travel echoed softly through the rocky passageways, and then faded, leaving Kin alone to his work.
