the temperature has plummeted so all i want is hearty savoury meals, and i'm very proud of these ones. the chashu (look at it) in the ramen was homemade in the slow cooker, and i used the bones from the pork belly plus carrots, spring onions, garlic, kombu, katsuboshi & peppercorns simmered over the course of an afternoon to make the broth.
then this morning i made the okonomiyaki almost entirely from scraps from other meals: some flour rescued after i added too much into a roux, meat scraped from the pork bones, and rice from the bottom of the rice cooker soaked overnight in shaoxing wine. plus ginger, spring onions & odd ends of cabbage. think i'll do this one more often.
i'm deep in use it up mode due to running out of freezer space after my housemate got a big delivery of produce from her mum who is a farmer, and it is always very satisfying to get the most out of everything. what i don't know now is what i will do for dinner.
