Joe Blair was just your average private dick with a dream… sadly, his detective day job didn’t give him many opportunities to fulfil that dream until, one day, he saw an opportunity to fulfil it. This one case required him to act quickly, and luckily Joe had something to help him with that…

Turbo-charged heelies!

So yeah, unlike most speedster characters, Zippo gets his speed from wearing big wheels on his feet (which is presumably hell when he’s trying to walk short distances).

Some Public Domain Superheroes also happen to be cops. This raises the question of why they'd need to take on an alias and put on an identity-concealing costume to fight crime when not only do they do that on a daily basis, but they're getting paid to do it. I don't have this question for Alias the Dragon.

Sgt. Bill Norton is closely associated with the police... except he has a secret. By night, he wears a red and green costume and calls himself "Alias the Dragon"... clearly, there's something systemically wrong with the police if a sergeant couldn't think of a better alias than "Alias".

He hasn't got any powers. He's presumably been through police training, but he doesn't put that knowledge to use when he's Alias (or at least I fucking hope what he does isn't part of training). When Alias is fighting a crime, he uses his flamethrower.

Perhaps the most comforting thing to know is that he only ever made 1 appearance. He'd be perfect for bringing back under a satirical lens, much like how Peacemaker has been used recently, or what Judge Dredd has evolved into (Judge Dredd has always been satirical, but it wasn't always violent).

Faster than an aeroplane! More powerful than a locomotive! Impervious to bullets! Up in the sky, look! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's-

THE EYE

(Imagine there's some CSS shenanigans going on with the above words, I can't code).

Today's hero is a giant flaming eye from... somewhere. This one also popped up in Keen Detective Funnies, though his appearance was before TNT Todd made a very sudden career change.

From its appearance, you may assume that he's some sort of villain or a miscellaneous public domain character that the Public Domain Superhero Wiki decided to lump in with the caped guys (as it has an annoying tendency to do) but this character is actually a hero. They use their power of flight and the deadly heat rays they can shoot from its eye to fight crime.

On paper, it's the best parody of Superman I've seen, and all it does is give the same powers to something more outwardly horrifying. I don't think that's what it's aiming for, but I think that'd be a great angle to use if someone wanted to bring back this inexplicable character (which they should).
