Honestly I’m surprised by the amount of people who (correctly) point out that datacenters use a lot of water and a lot of that gets evaporated away, but our sewage treatment infrastructure pretty much gets a pass on simply discharging as much freshwater as it can into saltwater and basically just… not reuse it.

I’d personally be fighting for smarter and more expansive water reuse infrastructure.

“Google uses 6.5 billion gallons of water a year!”

That’s nice. A 100 million gallon per day treatment plant discharges approximately 36.5 billion gallons of largely fresh water to a natural watercourse or saltwater seas per year.

I’m sure a balance can be struck especially for contributing to the natural run of a river but it seems kinda foolish that we aren’t leaning harder on encouraging and expanding post-treatment water reuse as much as we should be!
