#serial experiments lain
looking like i'm finally gonna finish Serial Experiments Lain tonight! about to start episode Layer:10 and I have to say I did not expect the Roswell curveball in the previous episode, but then again I shouldn't be expecting anything. I think I kept dropping it the past few times I tried to watch through because it's genuinely distressing on some level. While I don't fully grasp everything it's trying to say with some of the more surreal elements, there's something frighteningly relatable about the socially isolated child paying attention to the internet for the first time in their life and quickly being consumed by it until it starts to take precedent over their real life.
All I'm saying is it's hard to watch this show with headphones sitting at my desk with my computer humming away next to me and not feel self-conscious and directly attacked.
Only 1 week until Nintendo axes the 3DS servers...
Something that doing this highlighted for me is how the swapdoodle color options were picked up specifically of how the 3DS screen looked. It looks really good on the 3DS but save for the more saturated colors they look so bland when I screenshot and look at it on my computer.
The yellow hair here is a great example, I would never choose this yellow shade to draw with on my PC because the contrast with white mixes so easily with the white background that I would never be able to discern and do detailed hatching on... but on the 3DS the contrast is great so I forget that the screenshot will look bad on PC when I start drawing with it.
Also the default black is lighter than the pure black color, but on the PC screen you see it more distinctly as a dark gray instead of the lighter black that it feels like on the 3DS
I know this has to do how my PC screen looks, it looks better on my phone's screen but not as good as on the 3DS, so maybe an upgrade is due... but it's still fun to have a palpable example of how hardware shape choices in software development like color tones. The GBA is infamous for that, but I had never seen this talked about on the 3DS and its good to experience it myself.
Anyways, about this batch. I finally watched Lain last week, it was pretty much what I expected after idk how many years being exposed to fanart and shots from the show. No big surprises but that's not a bad thing.
I'm proud of the Lain and Yukari doodles.
