#shiren 6

Still a really fun game! But as far as I can tell, either I had gotten unlucky month ago, or there was an update in the last few months that made a dungeon I was stuck on easier... I managed to beat it on the first try back. There definitely was an update since I last played, apparantly they added a free-play-ish mode for basically every dungeon in the game where you can impose various rules or use special setups? And also a bunch of puzzle fights built for every monster in the game, which is fun. But on that dungeon I was stuck on, it seems like they might've added a chance for a companion to show up and be able to be recruited for the attempt...? And companions are very strong in this game, so that's a huge difference.

And like, I dont think its a bad change. That dungeon was probably overtuned, when I last played its clear rate was lower than the endgame 99 floor dungeon, and now its a bit higher. And its directly tied to a major sidestory, and the equivalent dungeon for the other major sidestory allowed companions, so it honestly feels like this was intended.

On the other hand... I dont know. I was looking forward to an unfair challenge when I booted it up and was surprised by a normal amount of difficulty. Still hard, and cant really say "first try" given the tons of tries I gave months ago, but it didnt feel like I overcame the same challenge even just given a small change. I wanted something to bang my head against but was surprised when it gave way, I guess.

Anyway, these are very specific complaints of a very specific sicko. I just like it when setbacks are common and expected in a videogame regardless of "skill level." Shiren 6 is still a really good time, and I'm happy that I'm back to it, I'm looking forward to crossing off the remaining dungeons before only the 99 floor one remains, since that one will almost certainly give me some setbacks.

you spend like 30 runs learning which items are even in this fucking thing and how to fight all the bullshit gimmick monsters that also hit way too hard. you keep dying for a while because monster houses keep spawning or you just appear in a giant room with monks who teleport hasted monsters onto you

then you get to the end and you find out one of the planets still wasn't aligned

lol, very next run i got literally everything in the world except a peach staff. a grass merchant was on the first floor and i gambled selling a few things to get fortune grasses for cave mamel leveling (which i was able to get the rocks for in time too), and bought one of each of the 400g grasses, which i knew were revive and invincible. then a few floors after all that an identify scroll revealed those and some other stuff, including a synth pot. and then by 10f i got a second one and fuuma equipment, 4 blank scrolls (one of them failed to banish knaves but i ended up banishing swordsmen a couple floors later anyway which i think was more important given where i was at) and the cashing pot to one-shot the boss. (the last blank scroll i wrote as windblade to identify them and so i knew i had an uncursed one.)

honestly there were a couple times i would just not play for a week because this was actually so frustrating, and especially once i started to really learn the tricks i got really annoyed by how easily a bad monster house, initial floor spawn, or behemoth floor could ruin a run, and then finding out the boss just has like an infinite supply of super strong ninjas on top of that was...horrifying. kind of hilarious after all that sweating to have what has to be about the easiest run ever; i lost a few items to a quite dangerous monster house around 11 or 12f, but i wasn't really that close to losing it all...
