Anonymous User asked:

What’s your favorite rip of all time?

That's a very easy question actually,

It used to be this rip (Going Somewhere - Mario Party 2 (SiIvaGunner)) https://youtu.be/_I186YONciw because lucky star rips are so joyous and idk the more it goes the more layer it gets and i absolutely love it. It's been my ringtone for a while and also the context that it's the remake and the 3rd version of an old ytpmv also adds to my liking of it
For those who wonder, here's the firsy version (it's the oldest upload i could find https://youtu.be/6Z8foU0S1IE
And here's the second version
https://youtu.be/J7fwRXfk93Y
I even tried to make some rips in the same style as this rip, to varying results

But i say it used to because since then, a new rip dropped that has been an absolute favorite of mine since i got to listen to it and it's

Lucid Dreamer (CD Mix) - Touhou 16.5: Violet Detector

https://youtu.be/HXUH3rwZPQk
So, those who know me know my brain has been rotted to the core by this song since i listened to the first rip of it where the joke was "Lucid Dreams" by Juice WRLD (o7)
I didn't actually discover it when it dropped but for the anecdote, i put the siiva touhou album on my alarm clock when it dropped so i could listen to touhou rips that i didn't know to wake me up, and this rip was one of those that stayed on my mind (i also thought it was "Lullaby of Deserted Hell" at first because i didn't know touhou music as much, i was only at the beggining of my touhou phase)

I could make an analysis of this rip that is such a classic for me now, or an history of lucid dreamer rips, or my history with it but it'd be too long, so i'll just try to explain the context of the rip
The lucid dreams rip made a few Lucid Dreamer rips appear here and there on siiva and fanchannels, but it really popped off in 2023 (the original mixless LD rip came out in 2020) thanks to a few rippers who also got tye brainrot, and then it just spread in a community effect.

Back to Lucid Dreamer CD Mix, siivagunner in 2023 did a One Direction, and in this event (where a lot of awesome rips were made btw), this rip dropped. As the Lucid Dreamer Touhou Sixteen Point Five Lover that i am, i immediatly listened to it and

See part of the reason i saw people get interested in the LD rips is that it followed the structure of the first mixless rip.
The original LD song has multiple parts. It has an intro, a first part that repeats the melody twice and adds a few things in the song when the melody is repeated, a bridge (= a transition, kinda), and a second part that also repeats the same melody twice, adding and changing more things to make it even more interesting and epic
(Ftr this is a stage theme in the game LOL Zun you didn't have to go so hard on it)

The original LD mixless rip (with lucid dreams as the joke) did something interesting with it. The parts repeat the melody and idk if you could use most songs well to play on the fact that the song gets... More as it goes with it, idk if i make sense.
So the original mixless rip basically just did a first part where Lucid Dreams is in normal 3/4 and the second part pitch shifts the vocals to the melody, it's a nice addition and a cool surprise that definitely keeps the rip fresh in its execution and not feel repetitive, and idk it feels very cool

Well this structure of first normal mashup (with adaptation of the vocals in 3/4) and second part pitch-shifted is a structure that a lot of mashups afterwards followed, and even put their own little twist on it (such as this one for example)

ALL OF THIS TO SAY that the LD CD Mix rip puts its own twist on the formula.
I haven't listened to "What makes you beautiful" much outside of rips, but it seems like this song also gradually gets more and more "full" in the instrumental, like layers added. Well rips of that song usually play on that in rips, but the ripper here did an excellent job at it and used it so well!
So the rip starts at normal, the vocals also fit perfectly into 3/4 time signature, then the bridge, then the second part gets the pitch shifted part, where it also fits so well to the point i often end up singing the rip to myself often. It's also a part where there's the second part of the WMYB instrumental added, one that's even more full, making this part feel more epic and satisfying.

After that the end part of lucid dreamer plays, and you'd expect a loop like how it'd happen usually, just a repeated version of the rip you just listened to

BUT NO! the rip used its loop to do something awesome: the bpm gets a bit slower, the part gets calmer, there's i think just a guitar that plays something calmer, and a more calm version of the pitch shifted chorus, all of this brings the energy of the song down in a very efficient way and builds a kind of wait for the next part that's coming that makes the next part feel very satisfying to get to
And when you get to it oh boy, the vocals feel like they have even more energy, the instrumental as well, the bpm is slightly faster i think, the ending part of LD also gets used there and is very energetic too. This rip is awesome because it subverts expectations in a very cool way with some creative liberties, using a structure that already had creative liberties that made it awesome. It uses the loop as a way to make a new part in the rip, a part that's neither in the sources used for the rips, it makes for a very very satisfying effect and idk aaaaaaa i just love this rip so much

Sorry anon you probably didn't expect a full infodump, i hope it was clear of why i think this rip is at least one of the best rips ever made, or very high in terms of quality, and it really is my favorite of all time and has yet to be dethroned

Uuuuh idk how to finish this post
