Silent Hill 2 (Team Silent, 2001)
#silent hill 2
my initial reaction to this was "oh this doesn't look bad" but the more i look at it the more i dislike it. it's such a good example of overly direct design, the statistical average of survival horror protagonists, that it shines a light on the whole project as just sanding down silent hill 2, removing "flaws" that don't actually exist.
he has to have stubble everywhere because he's a sad man. he can't have a wide nose and a large chin because he needs to look like every other survival horror guy. the idea that the designers in SH2 intentionally didn't give him stubble and gave him a face shape that isn't handsome doesn't cross their minds - it must have been mistakes or limitations. it's entirely as incurious as giving the game a combat engine where james does combo and epic sidestep dodges... and that's just depressing. why does this exist?
No Eddie in the trailer, Angelas and Marias characters assassinated, James still too confident, not inspiring any confidence with this remake Bloober
