Like seriously, they talk about how this is a revolutionary A.I. device:
But it's just a separate box for a different flavour of Siri/Alexa/Cortana. My Amazon Fire Tablet turns into this, it's a 5 year old feature! Why is everyone going gaga for a device that is already integrated into our phones?!
It is very frustrating talking to people who have completely bought in to tech industry hype, especially in a professional setting where straight up calling bullshit is inadvisable.
"I spoke to an expert in X technology (who is also an investor in that technology) that it's just a few years away from completely disrupting the industry." Yeah they sure can say those words. You can say a lot of things about what could happen in the future. What does it look like now?
Driverless cars exist, and they're little more than a prohibitively expensive way to kill yourself. Web3 failed to take off. Crypto exploded into a cloud of massive lawsuits and NFTs are now universally worthless. Social media funded "metaverse" experiences failed to catch on with both casual consumers and VR ethusiasts alike.
At this point anyone who buys into the hype is Charlie Brown running up to kick the football. Only instead of landing on your ass when they pull the ball away you end up swapping a few thousand bucks for a hard drive full of worthless Ape PFPs.
"The problem with AI is that it doesn't care about facts, just generating volumes of text. Here's my solution: an AI fact-checker, which definitely won't also make shit up or draw directly from incorrect AI written articles."
I just love the lack of awareness of the tech industry. This is just trying to put out a fire with a different, bigger fire.
I know that everyone here says to leave when it sucks. But I feel like having talked to plenty of tech people, a much worse pattern emerges. The cyclical hurt that is caused by leaving those harmful in power.
The constant churning in the tech industry of fresh-faced grads or bright-eyed high schoolers with some talent, their hopes slashed by managers/executives/higher-ups who squeeze them for all their worth, and then toss them out.
At some point, someone has to put their foot down and displace them. It's not constructive to let others go through what you have. Someone has to break the cycle, and abusers definitely never will.
