because we naively assumed that the software provided by the american storefront for the K631 Castor models would work fine for all Castor keyboards, but then.. you couldn't change anything through there except RGB, it listed 68 keys, not 69, the picture was an ANSI layout and not the ISO ABNT-2 one and dear fucking god I wish they had standards cause it was a minor journey trying to get back the \ and | key to work.
I'm 60% sure they're lying about this being plug and play, if you just plug it in it'll install the wrong thing and you'll be using the wrong layout regardless of what the OS says, the key stops existing. I had to in fact go to the brazilian storefront, which I didn't know existed, to find a version of the software that was configured for the ISO layout, use the thankfully provided reset utility to reset the keyboard entirely because something about it interacting with the software for ANSI layouts fucked it.
so the keyboard resets, still plugged, I reboot, windows thinks it's unplugged now and there's zero RGB and isn't detecting input, so unplug, plug back in, it appears to be working, reboot again for good luck, now the software's detecting it again and light comes back, then the software can now talk to the keyboard which before it could detect it but make 0 changes to the RGB stuff, but now after all that it's got the right stuff.
it wasn't plug and play, it was plug, use for a day or two without realizing there were issues, then get lost for hours troubleshooting why it was operating under the wrong layout. maybe I am just a dumbass but at least I wasn't too dumb to troubleshoot my way into a solution. I hope I never have to learn QMK.
