i played allegiance for a while. rts space flight sim combo where you use a variety of craft to explore wormholes in order to exploit asteroid resources until you can blow up the enemy space stations
i was a mid tier pilot at best in this world of inertia-preserving physics-simulating dogfights, but i was a supremely deadly turret gunner. replaying dragadog 1 has me thinking about asymmetrical coop again. what about a game where you could be a pawn?
an action rpg with differing levels of participation for people with different preferences and skills- what if the party leader lead the party, and as long as you were not doing inputs, you would follow along? stop doing things and you resume the formation. the leader will get you to your destination, leaving you free to break away for a few steps and pick up an item you noticed without getting lost. if you are an archer or a caster, you might be playing a little like a turret gunner: get to the fight, stay out of the way, and unload. nothing is stopping you from just directly controlling yourself the whole time, but you have the option to participate in a different way. maybe you like being the twitch reflex hit all the parries combat monster and just dont care about the rest of it at all. you can vary your level of engagement as you like.
