#this doubles as a subchost about empathy and/or invisible illnesses

feeling once again how the same words can mean vastly different things depending on person and/or circumstance. two people might both say that "i was scared, but i did it anyway, and it worked out".

to one this might mean that there was an amount of fear present—enough to be uncomfortable but not overwhelming—and a deliberate choice was made to do the thing, not despite the fear but with acknowledgement to it, and it might also mean that the decision was made from an underlying sense of safety and agency, knowing that the fear and any negative consequences are temporary and that no deep danger is present

to another this might mean that there was an overwhelming, controlling fear present regarding doing the thing, a screaming, warning voice, and that in fact no decision to do the thing was made at all by the person, but rather that a dissociative state set in, and an agent of the mind other than the "self" stepped in to do the thing, doing so in complete disregard to the fear present, doing so to advance its own agenda
