on a whim we actually took the time to look into meteorite impact stats vs. city size stats, and our prior idea that "the city is inside the crater" definitely won't work. realistically it has to be more along the lines of "the crater is inside the city," as the size of crater i was picturing necessitates "mass extinction event" type of impact, which the impact in question in the lore definitely wasn't.

Nayza Kosta is the site of the meteorite impact that brought with it the Psychic Symbiote. Although once feared in the days of the parasite strain, it has since grown into one of the largest cities in the world, built at the center of the impact site with outskirts-towns surrounding on the walls of the crater.

The largest remnant of the meteorite itself is contained within an interfaith shrine rebuilt from a former high-security research lab. Several, though not all, of the world's major religions have come to view the stone as a secondary holy place, and after some struggle an open agreement was reached for pilgrims' access to the site, while structures more dedicated to a single religion each stand nearby.

The city also houses a large university and library with a world-renowned program on the theory and practice of mask-making. At one point, advanced students could make masks using fragments of the meteorite itself, but this practice has more recently ceased in order to protect the impact site and avoid depleting the stone - smaller, more recently fallen meteorites are still used for masks though.

Because of its religious, scientific, educational, and general tourist draws, Nayza Kosta is also known as a multicultural center. Among other things, it is said the food served in restaurants or by street vendors is legendary.
