well at least if they're tipping heavier on the Sonic Boom side of the scales, they're being actually funny about it

that's another thing with Shadow, now that i think about it. turns out when you label a character as "the Ultimate Lifeform" to the point of it bordering on a personality trait but i'm getting ahead of myself, you end up writing yourself into a corner, where if he's not an antagonist you basically have to put him in this lamer version of bottom storage until the climax. bc if you didn't, then the conflict (and subsequently the story) would be over in a matter of minutes—character development and new, potentially interesting dynamics be dammed. this explains why, for as iconic as he is, sonic team has done practically jack shit with Shadow for the past 18 years, and why the most exciting thing to happen to him since is functionally a film adaptation of his debut

i have not had the energy to call folks for more than two hours at a time for almost a whole week, and i miss my friends 😔 but on the bright side i've been reading the Sonic comics all day and they're veryvery good. i've also not been on social media for a considerable amount of time which is probably helping my mood too

unfortunately finishing Sonic Adventure 2 and looking to the Shadow the Hedgehog game in the future means that i am very calm and collected and rational towards Shadow as a character (this is a really good thread)

me looking at Sonic Boom Shadow, foolishly thinking it couldn't possibly be that bad, right? right??

it brings me no pleasure to report that not even the IDW comics are completely immune to the Boom Shadow curse
