AIRBORNE EMPIRE is a citybuilder in the sky with an entire world to explore. Trailer and Steam demo out today.
I'm working as Narrative Lead on it with the fine folks at The Wandering Band. Thrilled to be contributing to this -- I'd say something like 80% of in-game text is mine, and it's been a blast to jam with the team on worldbuilding, plot, and characters.
Most of the time when I make games it's a very small-team endeavor, so it's been neat to see how the things that I write get interpreted and used as inspiration by the other folks making material for the game.
Steam demo is out today if you're curious, and Early Access launch should be coming later this year. Obviously still expect some bugs and typos right now, but there's still a lot to see. As a big citybuilder dork myself I love having the opportunity to contribute to something like this.
In case you want a taste of how the building part might go, try out the previous game, Airborne Kingdom, which has a similar premise.
I remember reviewing AK for GameCritics (link below) and at the time thinking "It's nice that this city-builder doesn't have combat," but now seeing this I get to think "Hey having combat in this city-builder might be rad."
