i feel like with crabominable we could do something really funny with the fact that bwrw eira (to snow) contains bwrw (to hit). but i can't formulate anything rn.

houndstone + gelert ?? somehow?? "beddgelert" is maybe a bit too obvious/easy since it's also the name of an actual town.

"gelech" combining gelert + llech (slate, flagstone, gravestone) maybe.

i'm sure someone has definitely done this before and has probably done more, but i've been playing pokéfarm today and giving my pokémon welsh names so idk this is what i've come up with:

  • cadnaw (vulpix): cadno (fox) + naw (nine), also coincidentally similar to cadnawes (vixen)
  • dwynog (nickit): dwyn (to steal) + llwynog (fox)
  • tânderyn1 (talonflame): tân (fire) + aderyn (bird)

names that could probably work for oddish, gloom, and vileplume:

  • rhyfeddygl: rhyfedd (strange) + rhuddygl (radish)
  • chwithnyn: chwith (left, amiss, strange) + chwynnyn (weed)
  • blodu: blodyn (flower) + du (black, dark)
  • blodyniwl: blodyn (flower) + niwl (fog, haze)
  • chwynwyn: chwynnyn (weed) + gwenwyn (poison)

  1. probably more likely to drop the long accent and become a shorter vowel, so tanderyn instead

Hell yeah! Love these!

I don't feel confident giving a full go; but I think some or all of the rowlet line referencing Blodeuwedd (flowers + face [aniquated]), the mythical woman made of flowers who became an owl; granting her name to the species. (But it's changed since.) ...Actually, blodeugwfl (flowers + hood) would be fun for decidueye...
