Idk that I’ll ever do a KH let’s play, but the idea can’t leave my mind.

my favorite part of how I do my youtube channel is, no matter how easy a logo is to find, i will remake it for my own purposes.

anyways, what if the idea was I played all the (easily-accessible) KH games

One of the things I enjoyed most about making youtube videos was making the thumbnails. I published about 240 ish videos on my channel, which is more than double the subscribers I have and most of those videos had thumbnails that I put some effort in. I can't draw and have very little artistic abilities but like a chimp with a copy of the cheapest version of photoshop I can make something that looks okay. I'm my own worst critic so I do question if any of these are actually good but I figured I'd share some of my favorites as I'm looking back at my time creating videos (and wondering if I should do more). My channel is mostly video game let's plays and quicklook style videos and just as a side note if you are a game designer, a press kit with the game logo is a huge boon to content creators. So if you can please provide at least the logo for the game so people can present your things in the best possible light it's a huge help.

This is what most of my thumbnails on youtube look like. A screenshot from the video that looks interesting enough but also shows what the game is somewhat about, with the logo of the game someplace that looks good. Looking back this is probably one the more attractive one of these on my channel, probably just on how simple it is, a lot of times I feel like I make to busy of a thumbnail trying to show what a game is by quick glance. But this was a part 2 and I felt I could go more simple as more likely people watched the first video, I hoped they did at least. Another thing I did a lot in the beginning of creating videos was using the start screen of a game as it would normally have the Logo of the game and then try to edit out the menu as best as I can. But that was always a mess and this was a better format for most videos, and more enjoyable to create. By the way Fights in Tight Space is a really fun deck building roguelike game and if you want to look more into it check out this link for the main website you can also check out my video using the link above.

Video 2. Let’s Play Home: a Unique Horror Adventure

So remember how I said a press kit with the logo is super useful, well here is what I had to do sometimes when that was not available. This is the best version of that though as I feel I did a good enough job representing the game using google fonts I found. I've also did things like take the logo from the start screen for other thumbnails but that rarely looks good whenever I tried it. There was also an edit of this where I tried to make the eyes in the background red to emphasize the horror element but I didn't think it looked that good and I felt weird about changing something in game for the thumbnail. As if someone would watch the video see the change and be like "What the hell I was expecting red eyes I've been duped". Is that a crazy thought? yes, yes it is. Home is a very interesting and light horror adventure game, I don't know if it'll scare you but the atmosphere might creep you out. If you want to look more into it check out this link for the main website you can also check out my video using the link above.

Video 3. Testing Friendships With KTaNE: John's Turn

This was a series I did for a bit where I would call a friend on discord and just tell them I had a bomb I needed to defuse but I couldn't open the instructions. It was a fun time and when this video was first posted it didn't have a thumbnail, but one night I got inspired by rainbows and friendships. Yeah I don't know but I like this one a fair bit, and is definitely one of those I was messing around in photoshop and I don't know if I could recreate this perfectly type of thing. And if you don't know Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes you should check out this game, it's a fun time with friends that uses an unique way to play where one person is playing the game on a screen and the other group can only read a bomb defusal manual and can't see the screen. My video I have linked above is about 8 minutes long or you can check out the main website here.

Video 4. My Top 3 Games of 2016

This is a style I did a few times for my vlog type videos, I didn't like posting my face in the thumbnail for awhile cause I didn't want to scare people off. I don't know what it is about this look but I find it eye catching if maybe to simple. From what I can tell and remember I took the boxart of the games I talked about in the video and did some kind of photoshop filter on it, my guess is paint daubs with a motion blur at an angle. It's probably easy to tell what games I chose for my top 3 but hey don't people want to watch 17 minutes of some 25 year old kid talking about video games? Again one of those thumbnails of me just messing around in photoshop and something good will probably come from it, even though I'll never be able to recreate it. But I could argue that Thumbnails should be unique anyway.

Video 5. A Look at Digimon Links

This is the Thumbnail I think about when I think about making Thumbnails. I put too much effort into this because I love digimon even though I didn't care for Digimon Links. Digimon Links was a phone app (now no longer officially available) so recording it was a hassle and to do this Thumbnail took about 4 screenshots, multiple videos I had to record to get those screenshots, the logo I must have gotten from somewhere cause I'm almost 98% sure this game did not have a press kit but maybe had a facebook page, and also a font for the digimon language because I decided it needed that. The digimon in the thumbnail required I inspect them in game and you can spin them around and when you tapped on them they would do different animations. So I had to keep clicking on them to get the right poses. I think this Thumbnail had 3 versions of it with different digimon and different poses. All this work, which I enjoyed doing and had fun with, to make something that I liked and the video got 9 views. And that's my youtube career in a nutshell... What were we talking about again?
