I think I realized why I can't handle a lot of informative videos from youtube creators who cater to a younger demographic: they cut out all the dead air.
If someone is talking naturally, they have a ton of pauses. They'll stop between sentences to gather their thoughts, yield at commas to segue between clauses, and occasionally trip up and have to redo a sentence.
These pauses are, in part, a function of the interactivity of a lecture. They are very important when your goal is to convey information. Stopping between ideas gives your audience time to take notes and synthesize a little bit. The undergrad algorithms class I taught last year had over 300 students in each section. I had to sometimes wait ten to fifteen seconds after showing a new definition, explain it a few times in different ways, answer student questions, and then use it in an example before moving on.
